Viking Long Seax with Bone Grip in Jellinge Style, 10th c.
This Viking Age saxophone knife or scramasax features a long EN45 spring steel blade with a thick spine and a sharp point. On either side, two grooves run along the upper half of the blade, approximately two-thirds of the way down its length.
The striking and beautiful hilt is made of polished bone. It is adorned with engravings in the Jelling (also: Jellinge) style, a 10th-century Norse art style typically characterized by intertwined band- or ribbon-like animals with ridged bodies, usually depicted in profile.
The long Viking seax comes with a beautiful 3 mm thick vegetable-tanned leather sheath with antiqued brass fittings, including three hanging loops.
